Understand through Lived Experience

These learning modules have been created in response to the stories, experiences, reflections, thoughts and intentions expressed by lived experience experts regarding the health and wellbeing needs of same sex attracted and gender divers people from multicultural and faith based communities. Service providers and community leaders, advocates and allies sought a deeper understanding via the voices of lived experience. These stories of lived experience experts have guided the development of this resource.

Multiplicity

Individuals and communities do not live single issue lives; rather identity and experiences are multiple and complex, interacting in social and historical contexts. Same sex attracted and gender diverse people from multicultural and faith based communities have many stories to tell.

Visibility

A diversity of voices and the visibility of many identities and experiences can support the development of safe and inclusive cultures for same sex attracted and gender diverse people from multicultural and faith based communities; centring practice in their lived experience.

Voice

A person centred approach supports the capacity of same sex attracted and gender diverse people from multicultural and faith based communities to speak for themselves with regards to their lives and experiences; supporting a diversity of voices and a diversity of stories.

Community

The identity of same sex attracted and gender diverse people from multicultural and faith based communities may include the experiences and interactions with families, with traditions and with communities. Communities may be at different stages of awareness and action.

Advocacy

A social justice approach to access and inclusion requires organisations and communities to be accountable to the intersecting experiences of discrimination that same sex attracted and gender diverse people from multicultural and faith based communities encounter.
